Come here, Come near, My Black Swan

The weather has been extra chilly lately. It has almost been two days now that I haven’t seen any sunlight. Making me feel a little gloomy, wanting to just go to bed and sleep the rest of the day. How I miss the sunlight and the warmth that it gives on my skin. Beach seems so inviting right now but the weather doesn’t allow such activity. sigh. Oh well…

How much will you sacrifice or change just for a role that you desire so much?

So, I recently watched Black Swan, a Darron Aronofsky film, same director who has done the The Wrestler and Requiem of a Dream. The film stars (my all-time-favorite) Natalie Portman.

I have always had this fondness of Ballet especially Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake wherein a Princess is placed with a curse by an evil Sorcerer, Rothbart. By day, the princess is a swan and by night, she turns back to the beautiful and graceful maiden that she is. And the only way to break the curse is only through True Love. Luckily, a prince accidentally finds the Swan Princess in the lake. The Prince swore that he would announce his love for her in the ball to tell all of the kingdom that she is the one that he has been looking for. Unfortunately, Rothbart knew about this. He transforms his daughter to look like the Princess and goes to the ball, the Black Swan. The Prince was tricked and announced his love for the Black Swan. The Swan Princess coming too late and seeing what has been done flees to the lake. Filled with sorrow, she dives into the lake and dies.

I know. Not the sweet fairy tale ending that you were looking for. Just the same thing, when I found out about the real ending in the Little Mermaid.

I don’t want to spoil anything because the film is just so ingeniously designed that you must watch it. And the story that I just have written above, doesn’t spoil the true plot of the film.

Natalie Portman, was made for the role. Her beauty was perfect as the White Swan but her transformation into the Black Swan was mesmerizing.

The film. Perfecto.

In lighter note, I found out that the color of the year that was given by Pantone is HONEYSUCKLE.
